چکیده

Pelagic deep-sea siliceous successions in accretionary complexes preserve precious records of a vast deep seafloor that is now lost due to plate subduction. Microfossils are the key means age assignment these successions, but poor preservation tectonic deformation and metamorphism at subduction zone hamper biostratigraphic records. X-ray computed microtomography, while not widely used studies until now, allows us visualize fossils impossible or difficult extract from host rocks preservation. In this study, we applied method on conodonts pelagic chert–claystone succession Okoshizawa, Iwaizumi Town, Northeast Japan, using laboratory-based microscope. This work first close look conodont biostratigraphy across Carboniferous–Permian boundary Panthalassa. We identified including ten species as zonal markers intensely studied areas such around East European Platform Midcontinent United States. Based occurrence conodonts, section Okoshizawa was correlated lower Moscovian middle Artinskian. Confirmation Artinskian diagnostic Panthalassa strengthens their role global indicators. By identifying more numerous specimens compared conventional hydrofluoric acid dissolution method, were able obtain information about faunal characteristics The dominant taxa changed Streptognathodus Mesogondolella Asselian, probably reflecting an ecological takeover by latter waters.

Imaging biofilm in porous media using X-ray computed microtomography.

In this study, a new technique for three-dimensional imaging of biofilm within porous media using X-ray computed microtomography is presented. Due to the similarity in X-ray absorption coefficients for the porous media (plastic), biofilm and aqueous phase, an X-ray contrast agent is required to image biofilm within the experimental matrix using X-ray computed tomography. The presented technique...

Anisotropic shrinkage of insect air sacs revealed in vivo by X-ray microtomography

Air sacs are thought to be the bellows for insect respiration. However, their exact mechanism of action as a bellows remains unclear. A direct way to investigate this problem is in vivo observation of the changes in their three-dimensional structures. Therefore, four-dimensional X-ray phase contrast microtomography is employed to solve this puzzle. Quantitative analysis of three-dimensional ima...

Biostratigraphy of Devonian-Carboniferous boundary in Tuyeh-Darvar section, north of Iran

Devonian-Carboniferous boundary is not clear in the Eastern Alborz Mountains. In the current study Tuyeh-Darvar section with about 170 m, thickness is selected. In this investigation, the primary goal is revision of Devonian/Carboniferous Boundary (known as DCB) and the other goal is the redefinition of the DCB as a famous necessity (based on ICS program in 2008 for defining the boundary and to...
